It’s kind of funny, but it clearly shows a dog being upset about a dog costume, whereas the point of the original ad was that the costumes are not representative of the person holding it. That there’s a reason more peoples dress up as geishas than as the dowager empress. There are reasons that more people dress up as a suicide bomber than Suheir Hammad. And that’s because through various channels, we’ve been taught to think that suicide bombers are a better representation of Arabs and Arab Americans than female poets. We’ve been taught that escorts are a better representation of Asians than politicians. And we’ve been taught that Halloween is a free pass (think Mean Girls. Think “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.”).
