They do performances. They do workshops. They’re the Genki Spark, a women’s taiko troupe!
Taiko are those big Japanese drums that you see in movies and at Japanese American festivals, the ones that people have to stand to play. So, of course, the performances are fun. But the workshops are even more fun, because my friend Karen Young and the women of Genki Spark will teach you and your crew to play! There aren’t many places that you’re supposed to yell and hit stuff as hard as you can. It’s exhilarating. Even the people in my workshop who were less sure of themselves let loose by the end.
